Concluding the Wood Snake Year & Welcoming the Fire Horse Year

Registration will be available soon.

Join us for our annual Losar Retreat. During this retreat, we will hold three consecutive group practice events — Red Vajrasattva, Padmakilaya, and Vajrakilaya — as a profound means of purifying obscurations, accumulating merit, and clearing obstacles for the coming Fire Horse Year.

These group practices include prayers, mantra recitations, teachings, and daily feast offerings (tsok). Together, we will complete the Wood Snake Year with strength and auspicious intention. Then welcome the Year of the Fire Horse on Wednesday, February 18, by taking the Bodhichitta Vow and reciting the King of Aspiration Prayers.

Participants are welcome to attend any portion of the practices for any number of days. However, specific empowerments are required for participation. During this event only Red Vajrasattva and Padmakilaya empowerment will be given. Please see the schedule below for empowerment dates.

Please note: Empowerments will not be livestreamed, and the Vajrakilaya empowerment will not be given.

Schedule

(Daily schedules are subject to change)

Red Vajrasattva Practice

Saturday, February 7 - Monday, February 9

9AM-12:30 PM and 2:00PM- 7PM (PST)

In-person or livestream (Empowerment required)*

Vajrasattva practice purifies the subtle mental and emotional habits that obscure our free, compassionate and open nature. Meditating with the skillful means of the Vajrayana tradition, it is swift and powerful. This lotus family Red Vajrasattva practice is drawn from the great teaching cycle known as “The Union of Enlightened Intent of the Three Kayas” revealed by Terton Padgyal Lingpa. Red Vajrasattva group retreats have been an annual event at Rigdzin Ling since 1993.

*Lama Padma will bestow Red Vajrasattva empowerment on February 7, in-person only.

Padmakilaya Practice

Tuesday, February 10 - Thursday, February 12

9AM-12:30 PM and 2:00PM- 7PM(PST)

In-person or livestream (Empowerment required)*

Padmakilaya was directly transmitted to Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche by the terton, Padgyal Lingpa, himself and it became the wrathful guru practice that Rinpoche practiced secretly for decades. It was then passed on to Tulku Sang-ngag Rinpoche who, in turn, bestowed it several times at Rigdzin Ling. He authorized Lama Padma Gyatso to bestow the empowerment and propagate this powerful antidote to strong harmful influences and emotions.

*Lama Padma will bestow Padmakilaya empowerment on February 10, in-person only.

Vajrakilaya Practice

Friday, February 13 – Sunday, February 15

9AM-12:30PM and 2:00PM-7PM(PST)

In-person or livestream (Empowerment required) Vajrakilaya empowerment will not be given

Vajrakilaya brings the practitioner into direct contact with the display of compassionate wrath, the intense energy of enlightened activity that subdues the forces of negativity. Guru Rinpoche transmitted this method of accomplishing Vajrakilaya to his heart disciple, Yeshe Tsogyal, who made it her main practice and was the source of her extraordinary spiritual attainment. The specific practice we will use is The Razor that Destroys at a Touch, from Dudjom Jigdral Yeshe Dorje Rinpoche’s Treasure Cycle.
